Globalizations Impact on Poverty Globalization is the process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network of political ideas through communication, transportation, and trade. The term is most closely associated with the term economic globalization: the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, the spread of technology, and military presence. It can also be reffered to a process of increasing the connectivity and interdependence of the worlds markets and businesses. This process has speeded up dramatically in the last two decades as technological advancement make it easier for people to travel, communicate, and do business internationally. Understanding the current status of globalisation is necessary for setting course for future. For all nations to reap the full benefits of globalisation it is essential to create a level playing field. On the other hand, Poverty is the lack of basic human needs, such as clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter, because of the inability to afford them. Poverty is additionally seen as a state of mind and a lifestyle- more than just a lack of materials. It is a state of deprivation and insecurity. Poverty can also mean deprivation in the well-being of an individual and comprises many dimensions. It includes but not limited to low incomes and the inability to acquire the basic goods and services necessary for survival with dignity. livelihoods; hunger and malnutrition; ill health; limited or lack of access to education and other basic services inadequate housing; unsafe environments and social discrimination and exclusion. There are two types of poverty namely; Absolute and relative poverty. Absolute poverty quantifies the number of people in a certain population below a fixed real poverty threshold .it is a level of poverty as defined in terms of the minimal requirements an individual needs to afford minimal standards of basic needs like food, clothing, health care and shelter. Relative poverty is the condition of having fewer resources or less income than others within a society or country, or compared to worldwide averages. Impacts of globalization on poverty in less developed countries According to chandrasekaran Balakrishan( 2004), Globalisation is a buzzword that is seen to have dominated the world since the 1990s of the last century with the end of the cold war and the break-up of the former Soviet Union and the global trend towards the rolling ball. The frontiers of the state with increased reliance on the market economy and renewed faith in the private capital and resources, a process of structural adjustment spurred by the studies and influences of the World Bank and other International organisations have started in many of the developing and less developed countries. Globalization has therefore depicted both positive and negative results; as the less developed countries economies are greatly influenced by the developed nations Globalisation and Poverty: Globalisation in the form of increased integration through trade and investment is an important reason why much progress has been made in reducing poverty and global inequality over recent decades. But it is not the sole reason for the unrecognised progress. Good national polices , sound institutions and domestic political stability also matter. Despite this progress, poverty remains one of the most serious international challenges we face up to 1.2 billion of the less developed countries, 4.8 billion people still live in extreme poverty. But the proportion of the world population living in poverty has been steadily declining and since 1980 the absolute number of poor people has stopped rising and appears to have fallen in recent years despite strong population growth in less developed countries. If the proportion living in poverty had not fallen since 1987 alone a further 21.5million people would be living in extreme poverty today. Globalization generally reduces poverty because more integrated economies tend to grow faster and this growth is usually widely diffused. As low-income countries break into global markets for manufactures and services, poor people can move from the vulnerability of grinding rural poverty to better jobs, often in towns or cities. In addition to this structural relocation, integration raises productivity job by job. Workers with the same skillsbe they farmers, factory workers, or pharmacistsare less productive and earn less in developing economies than in advanced ones. Integration reduces these gaps. Rich countries maintain significant barriers against the products of poor countries, inhibiting this poverty-reducing integration. (World Bank Policy Research Report).   Ãƒâ€šÃ‚  One possible solution for such a crisis remains the closer integration of countries through trade. Brought about by enormous decreases in transportation and communication costs as well as the break down of many artificial barriers of trade, globalization of industry provides developing countries with the resources and capital to aide economic problems. By increasing the integration of national economies into expanding international markets (Todaro 796), less developed countries are provided the opportunity to advance through the outside purchase of technology and industry as well as the trade that follows. Globalization also produces winners and losers, both between countries and within them. Between countries, globalization is now mostly reducing inequality. About 3 billion people live in new globalizing developing countries. During the 1990s this group grew at 5 percent per capita compared to 2 percent for the rich countries. The number of extreme poor (living on less than $1 per day) in the new globalizers declined by 120 million between 1993 and 1998. However, many poor countrieswith about 2 billion peoplehave been left out of the process of globalization. Many are becoming marginal to the world economy, often with declining incomes and rising poverty. Clearly, for this massive group of people, globalization is not working. Some of these countries have been handicapped by unfavorable geography, such as being landlocked and prone to disease. Others have been handicapped by weak policies, institutions, and governance; yet others by civil war. (Chandrasekaran Balakrishan(2004). The positive aspect of globalization Globalization has created the concept of outsourcing. Work such as software development, customer support, marketing, accounting and insurance is outsourced to less developed countries like Tanzania. So the company that outsourced the work enjoys the benefit of lower costs because the wages in less developed countries is far lower than that of developed countries. The workers in the developing countries get employment. Developing countries get access to the latest technology( Prabhakar P illai). Increased competition forces companies to lower prices and in the long run benefits the end consumers in the third world countries. An example is the telecommunication industry, where many many international firms have ventured in the local market and as a result there has been increased competition thus lowering of calling rates. Increased media coverage draws the attention of the world to human right violations. This leads to improvement in human rights. For instance civil wars in Sudan, DRC Congo and many other less developed countries has led to the drawing of humanitarian support from world bodies like the UN agencies who provide basic needs and security during such periods. In addition, Globalisation has brought in new opportunities to less developed countries. Greater access to developed country markets and technology transfer hold out promise to improved productivity and higher living standard. The improved standards of living means improved wellbeing of the population. in the less developed countries. The negative effects of globalization Less developed countries have outsourced manufacturing and white collar jobs. That means less jobs for their people. This has happened because manufacturing work is outsourced to developing nations like China where the cost of manufacturing goods and wages are lower. This in turn has led to increased poverty in this countries due to limited job opportunities .Programmers, editors, scientists , accountants and other professionals have lost their jobs due to outsourcing to cheaper locations like india. Globalization has led to exploitation of human labor. Prisoners and child workers are used to work in inhumane conditions. Safety standards are ignored to produce cheap goods. This has led to working in risky environments which endangers their health thus they use more of their little income on health . so instead of acquiring other basic needs they instead channel all the resources on acquiring health care thus increased poverty. The competition in the job market due to globalization has led to Job insecurity. Earlier people had stable, permanent jobs. Now people live in constant dread of losing their jobs to competition. Increased job competition has led to reduction in wages and consequently lower standards of living. Due to globalization, people work from internet in various locations hence reducing the opportunity to enable others work. Globalization has led to the exploitation of less developed countries . this is because, Companies have set up industries causing pollution in countries with poor regulation of pollution. This has led to air, water and soil pollution. Thus poor health among the inhabitants of such countries. This reduces the productivity of the people and thus poverty sets in. Another negative aspect of globalisation is that a great majority of less developed countries remain removed from the process. Till the nineties the process of globalisation of less developed economies was constrained by the barriers to trade and investment, liberalisation, investment and financial flows initiated in the nineties have progressively lowered the barriers to competition and hastened the pace of globalisation countries. Conclusion Though globalization does not on average increase inequality within countries, it disguises the reality that there will be specific winners and losers in each society. Good social protection policies can be a key factor in helping people prosper in this more dynamic environment. Therefore, for the Less developed countries to have a stake in the global economy, they have to concentrate on five important areas to achieve their goals. The areas like technological entrepreneurship, new business openings for small and medium enterprises, importance of quality management, new prospects in rural areas and privatisation of financial institutions. The manufacturing of technology and management of technology are two different significant areas in the country.

Industrial Revolution (Extra Credit) The era known as the Industrial Revolution was a period in which fundamental changes occurred in agriculture, textile, metal manufacture, transportation, economic policies and the social structure in England. This period is appropriately labeled â€Å"revolution,† for it thoroughly changed the old manner of doing things and bringing up new techniques. Constantly improving the ways in which things were made, which had effects of cutting costs and improving quality and efficiency was revolutionary about the era. The changes that occurred during this period occurred gradually. Industrial Revolution did not happen suddenly; it happened spread out the centuries. It wasn’t only inventions but mostly improvement and new techniques to present inventions. Advances in agricultural techniques and practices resulted in an increased supply of food and raw materials, changes in industrial organization and new technology resulted in increased production, efficiency and profits, and th e increase in commerce, foreign and domestic, were all conditions which promoted the advent of the Industrial Revolution. The improved yield of the agricultural sector can be attributed to the enclosure movement and to improved techniques and practices developed during this period. A common practice in early agriculture was to allow the land to lie fallow after it had been exhausted through cultivation. Later it was discovered that the cultivation of clover and other legumes would help to restore the fertility of the soil. Prior to 1760 the manufacture of textiles occurred in the homes, by people who gave part of their time to it. It was a tedious process from raw material to finished product. Many of the stages of production were performed by women and children. The supply of raw material for the woolen industry was obtained domestically. In the cases of silk and cotton, the raw materials were obtained from foreign sources, such as, China, the West Indies, North American and Africa . John Kay’s flying-shuttle, which enabled one weaver to do the work of two, and Richard Arkwright’s roller spinner, which was to make spinning more efficient and James Hargreaves’ jenny, a device which enabled the operator to simultaneously spin dozens of threads, was readily adopted. Arkwright and others developed the water frame. Coal was the one of the most important material during Industrial Revolution. It was the black gold of the eighteenth century. Underground mining was extremely dangerous and risky. Improvements in coal mining came in the form of improved tunnel ventilation, improved underground and surface transportation, and the use of gunpowder to blast away at the coal seams, and improved tunnel illumination through the use of lamps.

Ultimately reaching the goals of the marketing strategy set forth for her individual entity as a Cosmetologist. Interview:Stephanie Abeyta, cosmetologist, was generous enough to provide time and valuable insight on the multiplicities and complexities that promote the utilization of interactive marketing within her individual entity. Overall logistics is th e driving and controlling entity to where Stephanie establishes her plan of action of whether or not to design and construct a social media presence or not. The interview with Stephanie Abeyta was quite beneficial on the direction of where and how social media will be implemented with her individual entity.Following is a transcript of the interview I had with Stephanie Abeyta. Abeyta 7 What are your thoughts on social media and its role in Cosmetology? â€Å"I believe it plays a big role in cosmetology because hair, makeup, and nail photos are all shared on pintrest, Facebook and other social media platforms. Sharing photos is a great way to get my creative work showcased†. Do you believe having a strong presence in the social media market will help gain clientele? â€Å"Yes, I believe more people will see what my capabilities are in regards to hair, nails, and makeup. The more people see my work the better chance of hem becoming potential clients†. What is social medi a to you and your individual entity? â€Å"Social media means exposure of my art and my brand. I believe this will ultimately lead to my goal of building a clientele base†. How does social media work, in recruiting clientele? â€Å"People will share my work on all social media platforms and hopefully that will bring potential clients in. if I get clients to like my work they will spread the word to their friends and family†. Abeyta 8 What kind of presence does your individual entity have in the social media market right now? As of right now, I have no forms of social media up, but I am currently working on a professional Facebook that will showcase the work I have done thus far. I am also working on tutorials that will teach interested individuals how to get certain looks with hair, nails, and makeup and I will be posting these tutorials on YouTube†. Identification of the â€Å"Why, How, and What's behind the product or service. Why? – Stephanie Abeyta's individual entity as of right now does not have a strong presence in the social media market.With our marketing strategy objectives we would like to build brand awareness and build clientele for Stephanie's individual entity. We would also like to build a strong presence in the social media market. This will generate an increase in clientele base as well as an increase of awareness of Stephanie's brand. How? – In order to build brand awareness, clientele and a strong presence in the social media market we will use many strategies incorporating a wide array of social media tools to promote and inform current and future clients.Our marketing strategy tools, includes the use of all social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and a personal website for Stephanie Abeyta. We plan to reach out to current and future clients by making it an interactive platform for all to use. Abeyta 9 What? – Using all social media platforms, we intend to strengthen the overall b rand of Stephanie Abeyta's individual entity of cosmetology and emerge into the social media market with a special niche that will give this entity the competitive advantage over all other competitors. We will also look at the percentages of visits in the salon, retention and the number of clients who return and compare to the beginning months of this campaign to see if our ROI in this advertising campaign is successful. With using all these metrics for success we hope to achieve a qualitative brand experience that is informing to current and future clients about all services and products Stephanie has to offer.In the current marketing environment that is surrounded by social media, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, are the new ways of reaching out to clients. Our social media campaign is not only used to approach clients, but to create a buzz and engagement for current and potential clients. Facebook- Facebook is the most popular social media method as of today. This would be our primary method of reaching out to our target market because so many people are already familiar with this site. Stephanie's individual entity will utilize Facebook's timeline to generate client involvement. Clients wil l be chosen t random and appear as the timeline photo as style of the week. Facebook will also be used to showcase the capabilities of what Stephanie can do as hair, makeup and nails. We will also encourage clients to check in on Facebook so it will show up on their news feed and their friends will start to recognize Stephanie's creative work. Abeyta 11 An example of a Facebook post: â€Å"Check out new spring trends for hair, nails, makeup every Wednesday!!! † Twitter- This form of social networking is not the largest or the favorite; however, it is growing and has opportunity. The hash tag is an easy way for people to talk about the same subject.Stephanie will use this hash tag and connect with individuals who enjoy great deals at a salon. The clients that view this hash tag will be introduced to deals and coupons to use with their visit to the salon. An example of a Tweet would be: â€Å"Two for one special cut and color all week staring February 6th-14th. Bring promotion al code FEB13 to salon!!! #ValentineDeal#Stephanie Abeyta YouTube- A social networking site that is informative and entertaining. Stephanie will use YouTube as a platform to create tutorials that will teach interested individuals how to get certain looks from hair, nails, and makeup that are trending.First tutorial on updos coming soon! The knowledge gained and experience established throughout building this advertising campaign has been beneficial for both me and Stephanie. It is evident that interactive marketing techniques utilized in various industries can catapult promotion of brands and services to exciting levels of high rates on returns on investment. The denial of social media on industries can be a detriment in substance of competitiveness with rivals and prospects.

Adlerian Theory and Models of Counseling Essay

The separate aspects that add up to the entire sum of what each individual develops into developed the basis of Adlerian Theory. This paper will address the connection between Adlerian theory and early psychodynamic theory and contemporary family systems. Adler’s greatest contribution to modern psychology will be included. The important influences on personality development that Adler thought important will be discussed. A treatment plan from an Adlerian approach will be used to respond to Darnell, a cases study that is correlated with this class. Adler’s Ideas Alfred Adler was a follower of Freud but separated himself to develop his own school of Individual Psychology. He thought that Freud’s views were too strongly influence by sexual instincts. Alfred Adler theory looked at how a person is influenced by his or her social urges and conscious thought, not every thing being influenced by sexual urges and the unconscious (Cervone & Pervin, 2010). Adlerian theory has an emphasis in birth order, social interests, and individual’s lifestyle, along with the concepts of inferiority and superiority as key components in the personality development. Much of Adlerian theory is based in socialistic ideology. Alfred Adler professed to be influenced by Karl Marx and much of his theory contains the inspirations from this type of ideology. Adler thought that psychological health is measured and determined by a person’s level of social contribution and the benefit received to the community for the greater good (Hunter, n.d.). â€Å"So cial contribution is increased through the reduction of mistaken beliefs, which frequently lead to maladaptive feelings of inferiority or superiority. This goal of combating false beliefs is attained through an understanding of family constellations, early memories, and dreams† Hunter (n.d.). Adler’s Contributions to Psychology Alfred Adler founded the Society of Individual Psychology in 1912. The author’s perspective believes that Adler’s greatest contribution to modern psychology is the suggestion that every person has a sense of inferiority. Early in childhood individuals work at trying to overcome their inferiority by asserting their superiority over others. Adler’s thoughts of striving for superiority was a concept that he believed to be a motivating force behind human behaviors, along with their thoughts and emotions (â€Å"Alfred Adler’s Contributions†, n.d.). This was known as the concept of the inferiority complex. Adler also contributed to psychology with his theory of position within the family system and the influence of birth order (University of Phoenix, 2013). The Adlerian theory states that a person’s lifestyle is comprised of four attributes are: self-concept, self-ideal, picture of the world, and ethical convictions (University of Phoenix, 2013). Adler also explored the family constellation and an individual’s relationship, early recollections, and the level of dominant or inferior role in that family system. Adlerian Theory for Case Analysis Darnell Yardley is the subject of this case study. Darnell is a 25-year-old African American College student referred for counseling by his academic advisor. Darnell has an athletic build, is well dressed and clean-shaven. He is reporting feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and uncertainty with regard to career goals. His appearance is incongruent with his responses (University of Phoenix, 2013). Adlerian counseling would look at the influences on personality development for Darnell. The fact that Darnell was the youngest of four children and he was the only male child would be influential. Adlerian would look at the family constellation that Darnell grew up in. He describes his childhood as chaotic, with many fights. His father an electrical engineer was aloof, distant and very responsible. His mother was a nurse described as caring, but frequently overwhelmed and too stressed to provide for the children’s needs (University of Phoenix, 2013). Adlerian theory addresses early recollections, which for Darnell are traumatic and damaging. Darnell’s  early memories of his father coming home from work after a demotion and said to him â€Å"You are really dumb. Why can’t you be like your sisters?† This occurred after he received a C on a math test. He had a closer relationship with his mother but remembers yelling at her when she was drunk. Darnell reme mbers many nights where he would cry himself to sleep as a child (University of Phoenix, 2013). The outline for the strategy of applying Adlerian models in counseling Darnell would consist of specifics within the process of therapy. The therapist client relationship would be established. The process of therapy would explore the individual family of origin and the dynamics within that family. The client would discuss the feelings surrounding some of the early childhood recollections. The therapist would encourage the client with some self-understanding and insight regarding some of the issues discussed. The therapist would encourage the client to see there role in these events and then encourage them to re-orientate themselves as an adult and his or her own personal sense of fulfillment (University of Phoenix, 2013). A tailor made treatment plan for Darnell Yardley using Adlerian perspective would consists of certain goals for Darnell to work toward. The therapist would suggest that Darnell look at his premise and life goals. The therapist may challenge Darnell’s perspective in this process and have him inspect the things he has developed negative or inferior methods of viewing and thinking about something and show him a different approach. The therapist would encourage Darnell to develop some social goals. Such as he is complaining of being lonely, the therapist would have him join a club or become involved in team sport on campus and begin developing friendships. The therapist would challenge his loneliness with the thoughts of your lonely because you are alone. To have a friend you need to be a friend. This would also develop Darnell’s sense of belonging as he stated, â€Å"I feel alive and needed on the football field.† The therapist would encourage Darnell that if playin g football makes you feel happy and needed why not do it even if you are not doing it professionally. In conclusion, Alfred Adler was a therapist who was ahead of his time. His  approach was controversial and the sense of community made his theories seem less scientific in an empirical sense, rather more of a collection of his personal views. In a positive reflection the concept of the inferiority complex and an individual’s self worth can be strengthened and increase from the fostering of a group. The importance of what teamwork can impart on the strengthening a person’s self worth and a sense of belonging to a group can be a strong motivator toward positive change. The treatment plan for Darnell and Adler’s approach to family systems and group cohesion would be beneficial for relieving many of his reported issues. References Alfred Adler’s Contributions.
